St Andrews Landcare Wildlife Presentation

This week I went to another wildlife talk. Sharon from Wildlife Rescuers showed me a video of how to do a pouch check on a kangaroo and made me want to start doing pouch checks. Pam from University of Melbourne- Vet Science showed me a video of people moving the koalas from French Island to Kinglake and Nick from Mange Management showed me how to tell if a wombat has got mange or if it does not.

Something I learned:

how to get a joey kangaroo out of the pouch and how to cut the teet which is attached to the mother and the babies lips.

Something I want to share-

If you see a dead kangaroo or animal and it has paint on it then that means that it's pouch has been checked. If you see one that has no paint on it that means no one has checked the pouch so there might be a baby kangaroo in the pouch.

if you look in the pouch and see a joey in there and it's still attached to the teat then don't pull it off. You must  off the teat but do not cut the teat close to the baby because the teat can be way inside it's mouth and if you do then the joey might not drink or eat because it's mouth is not complete. Cut it close to the mother but not too close.
